Jays upgrade but still need pitching; Rockies begin rebuild

The Toronto Blue Jays finally landed their white whale, nine years after passing over him in the draft. Toronto fans have to hope Captain Alex has a better ending.

Toronto needed an upgrade at shortstop, where Jose Reyes has looked increasingly incapable of handling the defensive portion of his job, and landed one of the only true shortstops on the market in Troy Tulowitzki, moving one overlong contract (Reyes has two years left and at least $48 million due after this year) for another (Tulo has five years left and $98 million still due after this year).

Tulowitzki is two years younger and a better defender at short right now, with the potential to slide to third base in another year or two if his own range should wane.
