Virginia loaded with draft talent

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- The Virginia Cavaliers are absolutely loaded with draftable talent this year, likely losing five juniors in the first three rounds of this year's draft, while also sporting a few potential high picks for 2015 and 2016. I was in Charlottesville for the first two games of their series against East Carolina last weekend, and, following my report on Friday's pitchers, here are my notes on UVa's junior position players plus a few underclassmen of note.

• UVa left fielder Derek Fisher is the team's best all-around prospect, a plus runner with power and bat speed but results that haven't matched his raw ability. A left-handed hitter, he did show a better approach in the two games against East Carolina, especially in going with pitches on the outer half to the opposite field, but it wasn't consistent from at-bat to at-bat.

Part of the problem is that Fisher has a tiny stride and doesn't rotate his hips that much, which seems to be part of UVa's hitting philosophy, and getting him out of that habit may open him up for more power and perhaps contact too.
