Buyer's guide: Corner infielders

After an impressive 2013, Mike Napoli offers top value as a first baseman and emergency catcher. Elsa/Getty Images

As I have in previous years, I'm going through position groups to provide a look at where teams will find value (and where they won't) in free agency this offseason.

Here's a look at best values, worst values and trade targets among free-agent corner infielders.

Best values

Mike Napoli, 1B: I feel a lot better about Napoli now that we've seen him play a year at first base and look very, very good there and have no issues with the hip condition that caused the Red Sox to back out of their initial three-year, $39 million deal with him last winter. He's also an emergency catcher, which is a useful thing to have in the era of pitching staff bloat.
