Prospect scouting notes: Recently traded Hoffman has some work to do

Cliff Welch/Icon Sportswire

Right-hander Jeff Hoffman was the main prospect to go to the Colorado Rockies in the July trade that brought Troy Tulowitzki to the Toronto Blue Jays, and one of two significant pitching prospects (along with Daniel Norris) Toronto traded to upgrade the major league roster this summer. Hoffman, pitching for Double-A New Britain, made his final appearance of 2015 last week at Trenton, throwing five innings against the Thunder and showing huge stuff but some of the same problems that made the Jays willing to part with him.

Hoffman's arm is electric and easy; still just 16 months following Tommy John surgery, he's throwing in the mid-90s with minimal effort, hitting 97 mph five times Thursday.
