SAN DIEGO -- Rancho Bernardo HS catcher Alex Jackson first burst on the scouting map at the 2012 New Balance Area Code Games, where he was one of the best players on any team even though he was only a rising junior at an event that comprises mostly rising seniors. Jackson continued to hit well on the showcase circuit in 2013, and has remained one of the top position-player prospects in this pitching-heavy draft class this spring. I saw him play on Saturday in a high school tournament game held at Poway High School, and he showed some of that ability but none of the results, with minor issues holding him back at the plate.

Jackson's a very physical kid, 6-foot-1 or so and probably pushing 220 pounds at this point, with a mostly clean, potent right-handed swing that should generate line-drive power to his pull side and at least doubles power to the opposite field.
