Deleted scenes: Players whose options were picked up before they became FAs

Editor's note: Sometimes the best stuff in the movie industry is the scenes the directors decide to leave out. Well, that's not the case here. But Keith did write free-agent profiles for four players whose options were exercised just before they became free agents, and there's no sense in leaving them on the so-called cutting-room floor. Here are Keith's thoughts on those four players, along with where they would have ranked in his free-agent Top 50.

No. 21. Clay Buchholz, RHP
Age: 31 | DOB: 8/14/1984
HT: 6-3 | WT: 190

Twice in the past three years, Buchholz has pitched like a top-of-a-rotation starter in an abbreviated season, posting a 2.51 ERA in 221 ⅔ combined innings in 2013 and 2015 -- bookending a noisome 5.34 ERA in a full season of work in 2014.
