Law: Reddick and Hill upgrades for Dodgers

The Dodgers get another injured starter for their DL rotation as well as the best rental outfielder available on the market in exchange for some of their young pitching inventory -- but they don't have to trade any of their top nine prospects from a loaded system to do it. Oakland, meanwhile, trades two players who weren't going to matter to them going forward, and are way better off with this than letting Josh Reddick leave as a free agent and hoping to get a supplemental-round draft pick for him.

Reddick has really progressed as a hitter over his five seasons with the A's, cutting his strikeout rate by nearly half from his first full season in Oakland (2012) to this year and last, matching his career-best walk rate so far this season, and hitting .326/.390/.485 away from whatever it is we're calling the A's home park right now. He has average power but hasn't shown it this year, probably related to the broken hand that cost him a month in the first half, and after providing big defensive value earlier in his career he's rated below-average since the start of last year, six runs below average by both dRS and UZR in that period. He's an easy upgrade for the Dodgers in either corner, since their leftfielders have hit .229/.306/.373 this year and Reddick could play either corner.
