The Arizona Fall League altered its schedule this year, starting its season earlier with two weeks of only night games and some (apparently awful) exhibition games against Mexican Winter League teams. As a result, I went later than usual and stayed for the league's Fall Stars Game, a hybrid game that showcases the best prospects in the league while including a few top performers as well. I was there for six regular games plus that Fall Stars Game, and here are my takeaways on what I saw, focusing on the most notable names.
Nobody impressed more than Tampa Bay outfielder Josh Lowe, who has recovered all of his lost prospect luster and then some with a strong 2019 season that he's finishing with a flourish. His swing isn't different but his approach is much better, and he showed good plate coverage and the ability to handle velocity across multiple looks this week. His bat speed is just average, but he has a good idea of the strike zone and will draw some walks to go with the strikeouts, as well as the potential for 30 homers. I wouldn't have given you odds on him making my top 100 if you'd asked in February but he's a lock to make it now.
